WEEK 1
ROCK MUSIC HISTORY
Foster a life-long appreciation of music through a workshop focused on rock music history and all of its sub-genres including, Roots of Rock n Roll, Latin Rock, Blues, Southern Rock, R&B, Classic Rock, Alternative, Pop, Punk, Emo & Metal to name just a few. Students will design their own album cover in a particular genre.
Students will learn about the different time periods of modern contemporary music & genres. We will accompany our workshop with visual and audio presentations sampling a variety of music. They will also participate in creative activities that will help them identify a variety of styles of music.
We will finish our workshop with students creating their own album cover.
WEEK 2
ROCK RHYTHM
In our second workshop in the series we will have students focus on performing with their peers in a rhythm based ensemble. They will learn about different rhythmic values and beats found in popular music.
We will complete our workshop with a percussive ensemble or drum circle. Each student will be provided with drum sticks and a bucket to participate in this workshop.
WEEK 3
SONGWRITING
In the third week of our series we will combine the knowledge gained from the first two weeks and focus on the different components of a song. We will discuss song structure, lyric & dynamic composition & instrumentation.
We will bring along instruments for visual and audio sampling.
At the end of this workshop students will have composed a song together.
